The One and Only Caterina Valente!

Darlings, since the debut of The Redundant Variety Hour, we've been searching for the perfect clip of global phenomenon Caterina Valente. However, it wasn't until we changed our focus from her early years to a later era that our prayers were answered. In the video above, she's in full Helen Lawson mode. Bow down, bitches! Several years later she performed the same number (below) with a more refined fierceness and an outfit borrowed from Dalida. We hope you enjoy them both as much as we do!

  1. Both fabulous, but my God - that first clip. There are few feelings like being in audience that is watching an always excellent performer suddenly catch fire and become something transcendant, but that's what happened here and it's clear that they get it. The full Helen Lawson indeed...

    1. We have our friend TJB to thank for the Helen Lawson comparison. He's spot on, as always!

  2. Utterly marvellous! and "that dress" in the second clip - not Mlle Dalida, surely, but Miss Mitzi Gaynor, whose English language version of this song "Let Go" is such a favourite of us showbiz queens?
