Cherchez La Femme!

We're keeping the party rolling with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band! This clip is nothing short of fabulous. And if you just can't get enough, the performance below actually features live vocals from the ebullient Cory Daye. Enjoy!

  1. Dinah! Sean! It's all too much. Amid it all, I can't tell you how I admire Cory Daye's fashion savvy - picking a perfect period afternoon outfit, utterly appropriate for a daytime talk-show appearance.

The only downside of Dr. Buzzard's brand of swing-disco fusion is that I suppose one could argue that it led to Xanadu, but every good thing has its price...

    1. Cracks me up when Dinah speaks en español!

And Cory Daye is all that is good in the world.

  2. Utterly brilliant!

Xanadu may have nodded to their style, but what Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band did lead to - thankfully - was the magnificent Kid Creole and the Coconuts, who had a string of hits in the 80s. Miss Daye, unfortunately, had no great success as a solo artiste. Jx

PS I have actually met one of the founders of the band, Mr Coati Mundi - who also had fame in his own right post- "Buzzards"...

  3. Kid Creole & the Coconuts were excellent but I'll always have a soft spot for that first Dr. Buzzard album. (Their later stuff, not so much.) Miss Daye did work with them as well, plus had a few minor dance hits. She's still singing but apparently mainstream success was not to be hers.

One thing about Andy Hernandez (aka "Coati Mundi", aka "Sugar-Coated Andy"): his Wikipedia page says he was born in 1963! This would've made him 13 or 14 when these performances were recorded, and that seems highly unlikely.

    1. It was difficult to say how old he was when I met him, but he did release a solo album called "Little Coati Mundi The Former 12 Year Old Genius", so he might well have been a youngster when he was in Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band... Jx
