I cannot imagine having the nerve to try that on live television (I believe it's from the Coward-Mary Martin special - with half the nation watching), even if you wrote the damn thing. The eyes alone are a master class in how to put over a number. Genius from the Master.
Yes, this was from that television special. There are a few other clips available on YouTube. The Master, indeed!
"I hate to be pedantic, but I'm driven nearly franticWhen I see that unromantic, sycophantic lot of slutsForever wriggling their guts.It drives me absolutely nuts."Genius. Jx
Many, many years ago I was in a production of "Oh, Coward!". I wish we'd had access to clips such as this back then. I'm afraid our performances were a bit heavy-handed in comparison.
I once, in a rather tipsy state, made the mistake of trying to sing this in a room full of people far more able than I, one of whom I realized as I was about half-a-verse in had been rather a friend of the composer. It did not go well, and had I not earlier nailed "Half-Caste Woman" I would have probably had to move to Ashtabula.
I've always thought of you as a Libby Holman kinda gal!
