I watched a documentary about disco on Netflix last night, and the clip of Henry Kissinger watching a performance by the Village People cracked me up. My favorite part of the Allan Carr bio that came out a few years ago is when activists went to protest during the filming of Cruising, they ended up on the set of Can't Stop the Music instead.
They're fabulous, of course, but that poor construction worker can't dance to save his life, although I have to admit his enthusiasm carries him a very long way...
He needs his helmet! The construction worker used to be my favorite but these days I'm veering towards the cowboy and the leather daddy. On a related note, the first time I heard the Pet Shop Boys cover of this song, I was moved to tears. I'm just a big old sap, I guess!
Maybe having the Gay Men's Chorus on the PSB cover gave it a certain social/cultural resonance? I sort of get what you mean.
I was just going to mention the construction worker was giving it his all; meanwhile the sailor was sleep-walking through his business.
They must've run out of coke before it was his turn.
