That's why.

  1. Oh my god. It's like an industrial for "Legwarmers R Us." It was a dark day indeed when dance and aerobics classes decided to merge. I've got a feeling the notorious "girl's gym" number from the flop 1988 Broadway musical adaptation of Stephen King's "Carrie" was a great deal like this. Thanks Thom, for bringing the 80s back to life for me so...vividly!!

  2. There's a reason why we called them the Big 80's.

  3. Say what you will, she's a phenomenon: rarely indeed has so much energy been harnessed to so little taste.

  5. What about that burst of applause when she goes down that slide? What are they applauding? Gravity??

    1. EXACTLY! Especially when she had to sort of push her self off to get started down.

  6. There's not a single item of clothing or hairstyle in this that I ever sported in the eighties...

    God, I love me.

    1. My 1980s were very different, too, I had very little to do with the mainstream, so this is all very new to me.

    2. You surprise me, Thom. There's me thinking that somewhere at the back of your wardrobe there was an entire outfit in primary colours, or at least a pair of "tighty-whitey" shorts... (gawd, I miss them.) Jx

  7. Wow, she's like Lucinda Dickey, Shabba-Doo and Boogaloo Shrimp all rolled into one! (I pray that future generations realize that many of us in the 1980s didn't spend a single second looking like that or listening to songs like that.)

  8. One forgets just how jagged the 1980s were.

  9. This feels like an American translation of an episode of Fantastico.
