  1. dw griffith had invented
the close-up 40 years before this
    was shot, but this shlameil
on the camera missed that class.

  2. With all due respect to the diva, the trouble with watching Dolores Gray from the perspective of 2012 is that, all too often, she appears to be a not-too-subtle, oddly self-satisfied Lypsinka impersonator. I mean, what was that bizarro little dance break at the top of "Fascinatin' Rhythm"?

    1. You hit the nail on the head, Muscato. I think she's awesome, but she seems somehow unreal, a sort of composite of what the ideal entertainer from that era would be.

    2. I guess that's why she was so much more successful as a stage performer than a close-up studio star... Jx

  3. Thank God I don't have a 2012 perspective! When I'm watching Delores (and to be sure most of the clips on this blog!) I don't even know it's 2012.

Of course there's the whole "using a keyboard and computer to get to the clips and listening to them with headphones" thing but that's easily overlooked.

  4. 9 year old grandson's comment upon seeing Dolores Gray belt out "Bagdad" in "Kismet" - "WHO is THAT?" Star power across the ages!
