It's legit fabulous; not just boring old campy fabulous. I know Mina as a name but now I have to investigate further.
I'm glad you like it! I, too, had heard of her but was not familiar. That has now changed!
Ah, yes! Signorina Mazzini! She is so very cool - and has led a scandalous and fabulous life (about which, you will not be surprised, I have written before). Many of our favourite artistes owe a lot to her! Jx
Were it not for the wonders of YouTube, I might never have known about Mina, Raffaella Carra, Patty Pravo, and so on. I've spent the weekend watching Mina clips and absolutely LOVE her! She will definitely appear on this blog again. And when it comes to divas of this caliber, Jon, I just assume you've covered them already!
Goodness. Wikipedia, bless it, tells us that early in her career, she was known as "Queen of Screamers" and "the Tiger [surely Tigress?] of Cremona." She apparently still releases albums, although she last appeared live on TV in 1974 (!).Also - am I right, do you suppose, in thinking that this is the creative time that also brought us the immortal "Prisencolinensinainciusol" video?
At one stage, she and Raffaella were quite the double act, it seems... Jx
Muscato, I can't help but think of the "Prisencolinensinainciusol" factor whenever I see something like this, and I'm certain that some of the same people are involved.
It's true Muscato! Mina's last live TV appearance was in 1974, after the great variety show "Milleluci" that she hosted with Raffaella Carrà.Yes, it's the show of "Prisencolinensinainciusol", but there were many other wonderful performances: Mina & Nilla Pizzi, or Mina, Raffaella with Kessler Twins.."Milleluci" is one of the most important shows ever here, and people still remember it! Sorry, this post is old, but I'm on a "Mina's mood" tonight!
la SIGNORA MINA!! LA PIU GRANDE CANTANTE!! BRAVA MINA!!!
This is incredibly good!
Isn't it fun? I love it!
amazing! I want to live there.
Love that Mina! Even her later work when she dressed as a biscuit. Divine.
Fab! And, apparently, it was all the rage in 1966-67 Europe to do production numbers of "Lullaby of Birdland": witness one Concetta Franconero treating German TV audiences to the hip hooray and ballyhoo here.
That's a great clip, although Birdland and Broadway are two quite different destinations. Yet both require safety gays, apparently.
Good lord -- what makes it worse is that I watched both of these clips, back to back, and am familiar with both songs! Such mishaps are bound to happen, I suppose, if you watch these things while drinking during the day.
It's a way of life, honey!
the best thing i have seen in years. kabuki wants to hug you.
It makes me happy that you enjoyed this! I will hug you right back!
Thombeau, words simply cannot express… I’ve longed/prayed that one day you'd catch the Mina bug. I lived in eternal hope that one day, one day I’d visit the Chateau and would find her listed among the fabulosity that comprised your index. Alas, that was not to be. I feared that perhaps you held some grudge against her. I secretly worried for my own personal taste. And today, here, now, I find Mina. You’ve made me so very happy (She covered that one, too!) She changed my life and continues to amaze me. You must sample some of her more recent and current efforts. She lost her way a bit in the ‘80’s; hell, didn’t we all? Oh, I’m overcome with joy. Thank you, Thombeau. Bless you and bless Youtube. (Rumor has it that Almodovar's next project is a biopic of La Mina)
Hmm...If only someone had told me about her sooner! But I guess she comes to each when they are ready. She is fabulous and I look forward to my new, Mina-enhanced life. So rest assured, dear friend, that your own personal taste is indeed exquisite. Otherwise you wouldn't be here!An Almodovar biopic of Mina seems nothing short of ULTIMATE. The very thought makes me weak and giddy.
This is too good! I feel my life has changed after this.Mina is always fab, but the choreography, the music, the video itself! It's all too much. I'm overcome with joy and giddiness by the fact that this exists. Thombeau, I thought the chateau was unbeatable but I say long live to the ultimate variety and may you live long enough to keep sharing this wonders. I admire you and appreciate your work, oh, so much.Thank you.
Yay! Thank you for making my day!
I must have missed this the first time around. LOVE. IT!BrianB
