Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Tina Turner

Tina is excellent, of course, but we have mixed feelings about the water ballet.

  2. This got me thinking that Nikki Minaj's next video should be an homage to Esther Williams. Fab selection!

  3. While -- I know, I know -- logic has nothing to do with it, what the hell do these elements have to do with one another? Fire and water? Wet and rubber?

    1. I think it was more a matter of "We have a pool and we're gonna use it, dammit!"

  4. I have always felt that Miss Turner was born in a sequined dress, cut down to there and slit up to here. Not to mention the matching stilletos.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But, yeah, the water ballet is way out of left field...much like the jiffy pop wigs on the other dancers is way out of the solar system.

  5. "Mixed Feelings" is right.

I suspect the sponsor was Acme Pools or Jantzen Swimsuits. Possibly Miss Janey's House of Wigs on San Pablo Avenue.

  6. Even Tina looks like she has mixed emotions on this one.
She looks down at the pool at one point with a "What is this shit?" expression.

Dancing condoms would have been far more theme-appropriate.

  7. I recommend reading "Love to Love you Bradys", by Susan Olsen. You will know more about the "Kroftett" water ballet performers than you would ever want to know! The dirty water, the diseases they got, even what they are doing now. Love to love your blog, by the way!!!

  8. Tina (in 1973 @ Villanova Field house, Villanova, PA) did not have this presentation in her repertoire; but did have the "sequined dress, cut down to there and slit up to here. Not to mention the matching stilletos." She was mesmerizing!

  9. You know, it shouldn't work, yet weirdly it does. I think it's mostly her sheer unstoppable energy and fizz. When she dances she's smiling and having a ball, and the rest of the dippy-shit just seems natural.
